Vive Le Québec Libre:
The October Crisis of 1970

On October 5th, 1970, the militant Québécois separatist group known as the Front de Libération du Québec (FLQ) kidnapped British diplomat James Cross, demanding the release of detained FLQ members and setting off the two-month October Crisis. Over the crisis, the second and most recent assassination in Canadian history would occur, and the federal government would invoke peacetime war powers for the first and only time. In this committee, delegates will represent members of the Québécois government, navigating hostage negotiations and federal military intervention while attempting to raise their own political profiles.
